10 million Twitter users sent Elon Musk to resign

4:00 pm, December 19, 2022

More than 10 million Twitter users have voted for Elon Musk’s resignation as CEO. These are the results of a poll that the billionaire posted on his profile on Sunday, December 18. Musk asked his followers whether he should resign from his position as the head of the company, promising to abide by the results of his poll. A vote by followers showed that 57.5% of respondents wanted Musk to stop doing anything with the social network.

Earlier, the entrepreneur, who bought and took over Twitter just 50 days ago, insisted that he had no successor. «No one wants to do the work that can keep the social network alive,» he complained on his page.

Of course, as the majority owner (the one who owns the controlling stake — ed.) of a private company, no one can force Musk to leave. However, a number of unexplained decisions over the past few days have seriously angered the Twitter community and influencers. For example, Musk decided to sell personal data of users who do not pay for a premium subscription, and for iOS owners it will cost 30% more.

Elon Musk also started blocking those who disagree with the new censorship rules of the social network. Even Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, who was previously tolerant of the billionaire, suffered. The creator of the leading altcoin wanted to share a link to his Mastodon profile with his followers, but it was blocked by Twitter moderators.

On Sunday, Twitter announced that it would ban mentions of other social networks in users' tweets, which included Mastodon, Instagram, Facebook, and even minor platforms such as Nostr, which is used by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, and Linktree. Interestingly, the announcement of Twitter’s new policy disappeared a short time later, with the page displaying a «404» indicating that the content had been removed or moved.
