a 16-year-old gamer managed to set a world record for typing speed
A teenager from Florida, known on YouTube as mythicalrocket, has set a world record on the Monkeytype platform — he typed more than 300 words in just a minute.
Usually, the average human typing speed is about 40 words per minute, with the most skilled professionals reaching 60−70 words per minute — but this is still almost five times less than mythicalrocket’s record. Interestingly, the guy has been honing his skills for only 3 years.«One of my friends introduced me to a website called Monkeytype, and I just got addicted to getting high scores,» he said.
On the Monkeytype platform, participants make nonsensical sentences out of real words, trying to do it as quickly as possible. «My first attempts showed about 130−140 words per minute,» the teenager recalls.
The record holder believes that he has achieved success in typing thanks to gaming and chatting on Skype and Discord.
The previous record of 293 words per minute was set on April 30. The teenager uses a SteelSeries Apex Pro keyboard with a QWERTY layout and optical switches. According to mythicalrocket, the type of switches does not greatly affect the typing speed.
Currently, the guy is at the top of the leaderboard on Monkeytype, where one of his closest competitors typed 279 words per minute. It’s worth noting that the official honorary title of «fastest typist» in the Guinness Book of World Records currently belongs to Barbara Babbitt, who typed 212 words per minute on Dvorak’s keyboard.
