2023 may be the year when hackers switch to artificial intelligence

In today’s digital world, cyber threats are constantly evolving. The widespread use of artificial intelligence in cyberattacks has become one of the most significant developments in recent years. As AI technologies evolve, attackers use them to conduct more sophisticated and effective attacks. AI-based cyberattacks can be divided into 5 main types:

• Advanced persistent threat (APT). This is a covert threat, usually caused by a state or a state-sponsored group, that gains unauthorized access to a computer network and remains undetected for a long period of time. APT groups often use artificial intelligence to evade detection and target their victims.
• Deepfake attacks. They are hackers using videos or images created by neural networks to impersonate real celebrities, conduct fraudulent campaigns, or spread disinformation.
• AI-powered malware: This malware can work independently and adapt to changing conditions. It can also avoid detection.
• Phishing: By using natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML), attackers can create more convincing phishing emails and messages designed to trick people into revealing their personal data.
• DDoS attacks. This is where artificial intelligence is used to identify and exploit vulnerabilities in a network, allowing the cybercriminal to increase the scale and impact of the attack.

Artificial intelligence-based attacks are of great concern to both organizations and individuals, as such cyberattacks can bypass traditional security measures and cause significant damage. Therefore, it is very important to apply reliable protection measures.

Earlier, it was reported that cybercriminals, some with little or no programming experience, used ChatGPT to create malware and phishing emails that could be used for espionage, ransomware, spam, and other malicious campaigns.
