Nvidia introduces new chips and services based on artificial intelligence

3:38 pm, September 21, 2022

At GTC 2022, Nvidia presented processors for artificial intelligence processing, as well as a number of services for IT developers.

The tech giant’s CEO Jensen Huang demonstrated a new generation of GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards based on the Ada Lovelace architecture. New developments were presented in two versions — RTX 4090 and RTX 4080. The chips contain up to 76 billion transistors. The key features of the new architecture are the third generation of RT cores and the fourth generation of tensor cores.

The GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card is equipped with 24 GB of GDDR6X memory. According to Huang, the accelerator contains 16,384 CUDA cores and is four times faster than the RTX 3090. The new product will go on sale on October 12 and will cost from $ 1599.

GeForce RTX 4080 16GB contains 9,728 CUDA cores. The 12GB version is equipped with 7680 CUDA cores. Both graphics cards will go on sale in November for $ 1199 and $ 899 respectively.

Huang announced a new version of the DLSS 3 game upscaler based on artificial intelligence. According to him, the algorithm increases FPS (frames per second — ed.) four times without losing image quality and smoothness.

Nvidia also introduced its own Omniverse Cloud Services cloud platform for creating and maintaining artificial intelligence and virtual reality applications. The service includes:

  • Omniverse Nucleus Cloud — a platform for creating 3D objects and scenes;
  • Omniverse App Streaming — an application streaming service that uses RTX accelerators;
  • Omniverse Replicator is a synthetic data generator;
  • Omniverse Farm is a platform for running multiple instances of cloud computing;
  • NVIDIA Isaac Sim is an application for robotics modeling and synthetic data generation;
  • NVIDIA DRIVE Sim™ is a modeling platform for running autonomous vehicle simulations. Some services of the cloud platform are already available to users.

As a reminder, China has announced that it will compete with NVIDIA in the development of artificial intelligence chips. The new package of US sanctions against China includes a ban on the supply of production accelerators based on GPUs, which means that the production of NVIDIA graphics cards and cryptocurrency mining are now under threat. In addition to the sanctions, NVIDIA’s sales are also affected by the fall in cryptocurrency prices. Miners who no longer receive the desired profit are disconnecting their graphics cards and selling them on retail platforms.
