CoinShares: Governments have started a war against bitcoin, but they don’t advertise it

12:29 pm, May 9, 2022

The head of the strategic department at CoinShares, which manages close to $ 5 billion in cryptocurrency assets, believes that most governments have launched a silent war against bitcoin.

Meltem Demirors stated this during a panel at the Crypto Bahamas conference: «Globally, politicians around the world are in favor of preserving the environment, but they are actually confused by the decentralized nature of bitcoin.»

According to Demirors, the gradual ban of the proof-of-work mechanism will lead to a sharp drop in the cryptocurrency market.

«What we are seeing around the world, which really worries me, is an attack on PoW, and in particular on the use of energy for mining. In fact, this is a way to introduce a ban on bitcoin without saying it directly. <...> Without bitcoin, the entire market will collapse, because it provides the necessary amount of liquidity that we need. That’s why I think such actions by governments are incredibly short-sighted.»
