Bitcoin is included in the Guinness Book of World Records

The Guinness Book of World Records has added several significant cryptocurrency achievements. In particular, the flagship crypto asset bitcoin received its honorable page. BTC was recognized as the most expensive cryptocurrency with a market capitalization of $ 816.69 billion as of March 24, 2022, and it was also called the world’s first decentralized cryptocurrency.

«Bitcoin was developed as a solution to the problem of regulating digital currency without any centralized organization or 'trusted third party' to oversee transactions,» the Guinness Book of World Records says.

El Salvador, in turn, was included in the Guinness Book of World Records as «the first country to accept bitcoin as legal tender» last June.

«We had hoped that this move, incidentally condemned by the World Bank, would reduce the cost of international transfers — an important factor for a country dependent on money sent home by workers from abroad,» the Guinness World Records said in a statement.

A representative of the Guinness World Records Committee said that each subsequent edition tries to show the zeitgeist of the year in question, as well as the topics that are likely to be discussed the most. For example, in 2022, such key topics include cryptocurrency, space travel, and the youth social network TikTok.

«We will be watching the cryptocurrency space with interest over the next few years as the technologies underlying cryptography evolve and find a wider range of applications,» the Committee said.
