The law banning bitcoin mining did not find support among Norwegian parliamentarians
A proposal to ban bitcoin mining in Norway was rejected by a majority of the Norwegian parliament.
The bill was put to vote by the local left-wing communist party. «The majority in the parliament was against the ban on bitcoin mining. Having lost this vote, the left-wing political parties will probably make another attempt to raise the electricity tax specifically for miners. This is now their only remaining tool to make life more difficult for miners,» said Jaran Mellerud, analyst at Arcane Research.
Currently, Norway contributes up to 1% to the global bitcoin mining rate using 100% renewable energy. The cost per kilowatt-hour is NOK 0.12 (USD 0.012), which is a very competitive rate internationally.
