Twitter blockchain detective tracks down cryptocurrency fraudster who stole $ 1 million in ethereum

A phishing scammer going by the pseudonym Monkey Drainer has stolen about $ 1 million worth of ether this week alone through dubious sites, according to ZachXBT, a well-known blockchain detective. The blogger discovered four addresses linked to Monkey Drainer, including monkey-drainer.eth, and cryptocurrency security company Chainabuse published a list of victims who have been phished.

The incidents reported by the crypto blogger include scams via Astrobot Society discord channels, Fake Wolf Game, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and a fake Aptos Airdrop. ZachXBT has previously stated that Monkey Drainer has managed to steal more than $ 3.5 million worth of crypto, and the number of new victims of the attacker’s hacking attacks is growing every day.

Two weeks ago, the French authorities, with the help of ZachXBT, announced suspicion of five criminals accused of stealing $ 2.5 million worth of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The fraudsters created a website that imitated the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) NFT illustration animation service. After switching to this site, users lost their tokens.

And in late September, ZachXBT created a Twitter thread accusing cryptocurrency investor and bitcoin blogger Lark Davis of Pump & Dump schemes. The author of the thread gave eight examples of how Davis' wallet (the address was publicly available) received tokens from new cryptocurrency projects with low capitalization. After publishing advertising posts, the blogger sold the coins he received. ZachXBT believes that Davis fraudulently earned more than $ 1.2 million.
