Wormhole pays $ 10 million to hacker for finding a bug in the blockchain
Crypto bridge has paid $ 10 million to a hacker who disclosed a bug in the Wormhole main Ethereum bridge contract in February. This person is known by the pseudonym satya0x.
Wormhole announced the program back in February, shortly after a hacker withdrew nearly $ 323 million in ETH as a result of one of the largest exploits of the DeFi protocol to date. Soon after, the attacker was offered $ 10 million if the funds were returned.
The program launched by Wormhole offers rewards depending on how serious the threat is. For example, a «low» level smart contract bug can bring someone up to $ 2,500, while a «critical» bug can bring up to $ 10 million — exactly the same amount as satya0x was awarded.
In a statement released by the crypto platform, satya0x said that blockchain security issues are an «existential threat» to the future of cryptocurrencies. «I'm proud to have played a role in addressing this serious problem and systemic threat to the ecosystem,» satya0x said.
