Cryptocurrency enthusiasts have found a miner who started mining bitcoin in 2009
Online forums are an integral part of bitcoin’s origin story, as they are where Сатоші Накамото" href="https://noworries.media/biography/satoshi-nakamoto/" data-bio-id="4232">Satoshi Nakamoto and his early supporters discussed and created a breakthrough financial system from scratch. One of the oldest bitcoin forums, bitcointalk.org, still hosts historical discussions about the creation of the BTC logo and the blockchain itself.
An interested participant of the bitcointalk.org forum recently tried to identify the BTC miners who started mining from the very first days. To his surprise, an anonymous forum member shared a transaction signature dated January 2009, just a week after BTC’s inception. This is officially the oldest known miner. Adding to the mystery is that the signature was posted by a newly created account on November 26, 2022, under the pseudonym OneSignature.
The history of the OneSignature account shows no other participation in the forum, which confirms that the purpose of the creation was only to demonstrate the oldest mining fact. A deeper examination of the username leads to a secure Twitter account that was created back in October 2009.
The disclosure of a signature dating back to the early days of bitcoin confirms that the people involved in the creation of BTC closely monitor the ecosystem, sometimes fueling the interest of the general public.
