Cryptocurrency fraudsters steal tokens of Metallica fans

The American metal band Metallica has addressed its fans on social media with a warning about cryptocurrency fraudsters who started stealing tokens from users after the announcement of the band’s new album.

Metallica’s representatives decided to warn their fans after confirming the information that one of the band’s fans lost $ 25,500 through a fake Metallica YouTube channel. The attackers spread a message that in honor of the new album release, all Metallica fans will be able to double their cryptocurrency savings.

«Unfortunately, we’ve come across the unpleasant side of social media. Fraudulent YouTube channels and websites are offering Metallica Crypto tokens for sale. Please remember that this is fake,» the band said in a statement.

Using YouTube to steal cryptocurrency has long been a popular method among hackers. At the end of September, the South Korean government’s YouTube channels were attacked by hackers posing as billionaire Elon Musk, putting thousands of users at risk. The attackers published interviews with Musk and other cryptocurrency supporters to make it more believable. Obviously, the main goal of the fraudsters was to encourage users to click on the phishing link placed in the description to gain access to the victims' cryptocurrency wallets. However, the South Korean government responded promptly to the incident and within a few hours, access to the channels was restored and the fraudulent videos were removed.
