Survey shows that Zoomers have more problems with technology skills than older generations
Professionals aged 18−29 are more likely to experience difficulties when faced with technical problems than representatives of older age groups, according to a report by the American company Hewlett-Packard. There is a stereotype that Generation Z people are well versed in technology, the researchers said. But this is not the case.
HP conducted a survey among 10 thousand office workers in ten countries, including the US and the UK. Approximately 20% of respondents aged 18 to 29 admitted to feeling embarrassed when faced with technical problems. In the group over 40, only 4% of respondents have such difficulties.
25% of professionals under 29 avoid attending meetings when they believe their equipment may break down. Among employees over 40, only 6% do so.
According to Debbie Irish, Head of Human Resources at HP in the UK and Ireland, young employees are more likely to experience «technical shame» in connection with the transition to remote work. This is especially true for professionals who started their careers during or after the COVID-19 pandemic.
«Generation Z representatives spend a lot of time using technological products, but this does not mean that they are familiar with their technical nuances,» said Lyudmila Milla, co-founder and head of the online platform UJJI.
