Hackers hiding behind Joe Biden’s name published data of more than 2 million credit cards of users from around the world

4:09 pm, March 3, 2023

Representatives of the BidenCash darknet marketplace, which sells credit card data and information about their owners, have made available to the public more than 2 million valid credit cards. In this way, the hackers «celebrated» the anniversary of the marketplace. Interestingly, the marketplace was created in late April 2022, but the attackers posted the stolen data on February 28, 2023.

Due to the name of the darknet service BidenCash, the hacker platform is often associated with US President Joe Biden, but it has nothing to do with the political marketplace.

The leaked confidential information contains data on user cards from around the world. A significant number of them were issued in the United States, China, Mexico, India, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The 260 MB dataset includes:

  • full names of cardholders;
  • card numbers
  • bank details;
  • expiration dates;
  • CVV codes;
  • home addresses;
  • more than 500,000 email addresses.

Law enforcement officials are already investigating the incident. The affected cardholders were advised to monitor their accounts and report any suspicious activity to the bank’s representatives.

Hackers often «share» the results of their work with other criminals. For example, in January, fraudsters stole the e-mail addresses of more than 200 million Twitter users and posted them on a darknet forum. As the expert noted at the time, the leak of confidential information threatens the lives and safety of people who used the social network to criticize governments or influential people.
