Zuckerberg’s virtual reality to be banned for US teenagers

Two U.S. senators have asked Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms, to stop plans to open access to the Horizon Worlds metaverse to teenagers as young as 13.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Senators Edward Markey and Richard Blumenthal are concerned that Meta has been repeatedly accused of security problems with its platforms. They believe that the company cares primarily about profits and is unlikely to do anything to protect teenagers in the meta universe. According to the WSJ, the senators sent an official letter to Zuckerberg.

It is worth noting that Meta representatives did not confirm or comment on the information about opening access to Horizon Worlds to minors. The company’s plans were reported by The Wall Street Journal in February, citing a memo from Meta’s management.

In addition to criticism from users and government officials, the Horizon Worlds metaverse has faced dissatisfaction from its developers. According to company representatives, even the specialists who worked on the creation of the metaverse do not want to use the application — there are too many bugs and problems with image quality.
