YouTube has changed the format of displaying ads while watching videos on a computer

6:38 pm, March 8, 2023

Representatives of YouTube, the world’s most popular video streaming platform, have announced that they will stop displaying pop-up ads. According to Google’s website, starting from April 6, users will not see pop-up ads when watching videos on a PC.

According to the company, the new step allows to shift the vector of engagement to more «productive» advertising formats. This option was recognized as outdated and «disruptive» for viewers. It is worth noting that previously only premium subscription holders could refuse advertising on YouTube.

YouTube has assured that the disappearance of banners on the platform will not affect the advertising business, as engagement will be ensured through «alternative formats.» The company has not yet specified which ones.

At the end of February, YouTube’s new CEO, Neil Mohan, announced his interest in Web3 technologies, in particular in NFT and metaverse. «We believe that new technologies such as blockchain and NFTs can allow creators to build closer relationships with their fans. There are many factors to consider to make sure that new technologies are right for our company. However, we are convinced that the Web3 field has incredible potential,» Mohan emphasized.
