The Vatican Library will present its exhibits in the form of NFT tokens

10:06 am, April 30, 2023

The Vatican Apostolic Library has announced that it will implement blockchain and NFT technology to digitize and preserve its collection of manuscripts, books, and historical documents.

The Vatican Library launched this project in cooperation with technology service provider NTT DATA. In particular, its AMLAD digital archiving solution will be used. It will allow preserving the library’s collection as an important part of human history, quickly finding the right documents, and making digitized content more accessible to the whole world.

The library’s collection includes 1.6 million printed books, 80,000 works, 300,000 coins and medals, as well as 150,000 engravings and drawings. As part of the first step, high-resolution photographs of 15 objects of the library’s cultural heritage will be presented in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The images will be accompanied by explanatory notes.

AMLAD is an advanced metadata library and digital archive for museums and libraries. This solution enables 3D scanning, digital restoration, and metadata management, which will allow for the most accurate presentation of cultural objects in digital form. In the future, the AMLAD solution will be available for other museums and libraries.
