Youtube to ban users whose browsers block ads

11:33 am, May 11, 2023

YouTube is testing a system for banning video viewing for users with an ad blocker enabled. This was reported on Reddit. Users posted a screenshot of a pop-up window that displays the message «It looks like you’re using an ad blocker. Advertising allows YouTube to remain free for billions of users around the world

In response to a request from the moderators of the r/YouTube subreddit, a YouTube employee confirmed that the feature was being tested, calling it an «experiment.» However, he did not provide any additional details. It is also unknown how many people were affected by the experimental innovation. It should be noted that currently, only YouTube Premium users are not allowed to advertise on the platform.

According to 9to5google, this is a logical move on the part of YouTube. The portal also noted user complaints about the growing volume of ads that cannot be skipped. At the same time, not all users are ready to pay $ 10 per month for YouTube Premium.

It should be noted that the current price for a YouTube Premium subscription for Ukrainians is UAH 99 per month for an individual tariff and UAH 149 per month for family access.

This spring, YouTube started testing multi-viewing, which allows you to watch four programs simultaneously. The service is intended for watching sports content. The multi-view function will work on various platforms, including Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, and Chromecast. YouTube plans to monitor viewer feedback for several months as the NFL season approaches. The company expects that by the start of the NFL season, multi-view will be available to all YouTube TV users.
