Mastercard will allow its customers to buy NFT tokens without cryptocurrency

10:04 pm, June 10, 2022

The international payment system Mastercard is expanding its payment network for the market of non-fungible tokens and Web3. Bank cardholders will be able to buy NFTs without having to purchase cryptocurrency beforehand. Mastercard representatives announced this on their official website.

Throughout 2022, the company has been actively working to expand its payment networks for NFTs. To achieve this goal, Mastercard has signed cooperation agreements with several NFT marketplaces (Immutable X, Candy Digital, Sandbox, Mintable, Spring, Nifty Gateway, and MoonPay), which will allow the payment system’s customers to purchase non-fungible tokens for fiat currency.

Mastercard Vice President Raj Damodaran said that a recent survey conducted by the payment system among more than 35,000 people in 40 countries showed user interest in fungible tokens: «45% of respondents said they have purchased NFTs or intend to do so again, and 50% expressed interest in more flexible purchasing options.»
