Mark Zuckerberg’s new social network gained more than 5 million users in just 4 hours

10:44 am, July 6, 2023

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Corporation, said that more than 5 million users registered in the new Threads application in the first hours after its launch.

Zuckerberg wrote on his Threads page that the 5 million account mark was reached in 4 hours. The Threads app became available for download in the US segment of the App Store on July 6 at 2:00 a.m. Kyiv time.

The new text messaging service Threads is designed to push Twitter. Some believe that Threads could become Twitter’s most serious competitor due to the scale of Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.

The app is designed to «share ideas and trends through text». As stated in the App Store description, Threads is a place where users will gather to «discuss everything from what’s hot today to what’s trending tomorrow.»

The web interface for viewing threads is quite simple, with the ability to like, comment, repost, and share posts. Just like on Twitter, you can view the main posts of an account in one section and the full history of responses in another.

The app was simultaneously launched in 100 countries around the world — in Ukraine, Threads became available from the first minutes of its operation. Brands, volunteers, celebrities, government officials, and businessmen are joining the new social network.

Following the news that Meta was working on a «Twitter killer,» Elon Musk expressed his desire to fight Mark Zuckerberg in a cage. The president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, said that he had spoken to both Musk and Zuckerberg, and that both were «serious.»

The Canadian studio Blue Wizard has even released a game called Zuck v Musk, in which billionaires fight in the ring. However, Musk’s mother, May Musk, said that she canceled her son’s fight with the head of Meta. «In fact, I canceled the fight. But I haven’t told them yet. However, I will continue to say that the fight has been canceled, just in case…», said May Musk.
