Twitter-X plans to collect user data on work and study
After updating its privacy policy, the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, is trying to collect as much information as possible about social media users. The social network intends to add information about work and education to passport data, Bloomberg reports.
«Based on your consent, we may collect and use your biometric information for security and identification purposes. We may collect and use your personal information (such as your employment history, educational history, employment preferences, skills and abilities, job search activity and engagement, etc.) to recommend potential jobs to you and share with potential employers when you apply for a job so that employers can find potential candidates and show you more relevant ads,» the company said in a statement.
Interestingly, X does not define what exactly is considered «biometric data,» although other companies that use similar verification methods use the term for face scans, fingerprints, etc.
Social networks have long been criticized by users and regulators around the world for the information they collect and the way they use personal data, such as selling ads tailored to a user’s browser history. It is currently unclear how X will collect biometric data and how it can be used. Elon Musk, CEO of X, said that one of his priorities is «ridding the site of inauthentic accounts and pushing more users to use the Twitter Blue subscription.»
Earlier, we told you that X is working on an identity verification feature using a photo from an ID document. It is noted that Au10tix will be X’s partner in identity verification. The personal information submitted for verification will be available to both Au10tix and X analysts. At the same time, the social network will retain the image of the ID, including biometric data, for up to 30 days and use it «for security purposes».
