Researchers find out what tokens are owned by the biggest cryptocurrency hackers in history

According to analysts at Dune and 21.co, the most famous North Korean hacker group, the Lazarus Group, currently owns $ 47 million in digital assets.

The hackers keep all the money on 295 crypto wallets. Among the digital assets of the attackers: bitcoin — about 2,000 BTC ($ 41 million), ethereum — 1,200 ETH ($ 1.9 million). The hackers' portfolio of digital assets also includes stablecoins. The total balance of stablecoins on Lazarus Group wallets is almost $ 640,000, mostly in Binance USD.

It is noteworthy that the amount of cryptocurrency on hacker wallets has decreased. After the hack of the Stake.com platform, in which the Lazarus Group was involved, $ 86 million was stored in the group’s accounts. According to analysts, the Lazarus Group wallets were identified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), North Korean hackers have stolen more than $ 3 billion through various schemes in the cryptocurrency market. In the last six months alone, they have received at least $ 180 million. Earlier, it was also reported that hackers from Lazarus are covering up the traces of hacking the Harmony cross-chain bridge, the Atomic Wallet crypto wallet, as well as CoinsPaid and Alphapo crypto projects using cross-chain transfers.

As a reminder, in 2022, cybercriminals from North Korea managed to steal $ 700 million from the South Korean cryptocurrency market. Record-breaking thefts of virtual coins allowed North Korea to accelerate the development of its ballistic missile program. Thus, in 2022, at least seventy launches were carried out, including eight intercontinental ballistic missiles that posed a threat, in particular, to Japan.
