The founder of OneCoin cryptocurrency has become one of the most wanted criminals
The FBI has added OneCoin founder Ruda Ignatova to its list of 10 most wanted crypto fraudsters.
Ruja Ignatova, also known as «Cryptoqueen,» is accused of involvement in several criminal schemes related to money laundering, phishing, securities fraud, and the creation of a cryptocurrency pyramid scheme. It is believed that Ignatova and her accomplices began to defraud investors in 2014. The FBI is planning to announce a $ 100,000 reward for any information leading to the fraudster’s capture.
Ruja Ignatova founded the OneCoin pyramid scheme, which she and her offshore company OneCoin Ltd promoted under the guise of a cryptocurrency. Ignatova promised investors to make OneCoin the most popular virtual currency in the world, encouraging users to transfer their own savings to OneCoin investment accounts. According to rough estimates, the fraudster received $ 4 billion.
Currently, Ignatova is on the international wanted list, and the FBI is confident that the fraudster will be caught soon. In late May, the former head of the WEX cryptocurrency exchange, Dmitry Vasiliev, who was wanted by Interpol, was detained at the Croatian capital’s airport. The former head of the crypto exchange is suspected of embezzling more than $ 20,000 and is being extradited. Ricardo Spagni, co-founder of the anonymous cryptocurrency Monero, is also awaiting extradition, having been charged with 378 counts.
