The US refuses to control cryptocurrency mining

2:31 pm, July 1, 2022

The US Supreme Court has decided to limit the power of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to regulate the amount of carbon emitted by power plants. According to the EPA, this will impede the control of cryptocurrency mining and continue to have a negative impact on climate change.

According to journalists, for half a century, the EPA has been upholding the rules of the Clean Air Act, setting standards to limit pollution and emissions. However, the U.S. Supreme Court has banned the EPA from setting emission limits — this should be done by Congress, Judge John Roberts ruled. Earlier, Joe Biden signed an executive order to promote the development of digital assets.

However, mining will not be left unattended. The White House promised to propose a law that would regulate bitcoin mining and its impact on energy and climate. It is expected that the proposal of such a bill will be published in August. Among the decisions that have already been made, the New York State Senate will introduce a two-year moratorium on PoW cryptocurrency mining. The bill prohibits mining for new companies, while existing ones will be able to continue working. However, they will not be allowed to expand.

The United States has also developed the E-Stablecoin cryptocurrency «based on physics» that links electricity and blockchain technology. Mining E-Stablecoin requires one kilowatt-hour of electricity. However, the same digital token can later be destroyed to get one kilowatt-hour of useful electricity back. Thus, the price of one E-Stablecoin token is tied to the cost of electricity in a «reliable and stable way.»
