Cryptocurrency community MoonDAO used Chainlink technology to identify space tourists

MoonDAO is a decentralized, autonomous organization that uses blockchain technology to decentralize support for space exploration. The international MoonDAO community, founded to put space «in the hands of the people,» uses governance tokens to vote on funding initiatives, such as the purchase of two tickets for an upcoming Blue Origin flight.

One of those tickets was for anyone who minted one of MoonDAO’s 9060 free NFTs to win a blockchain raffle. Recently, MoonDAO announced an integration with Chainlink VRF, the industry standard for decentralized random number generation, to select the winning NFT.

MoonDAO co-founder Pablo Moncada-Larrotiz believes that the integration of Chainlink VRF to randomly select the Blue Origin ticket holder was necessary to ensure the transparency and integrity of MoonDAO’s mission.

«Thanks to Chainlink’s technology, we were able to write a smart contract and call it live, so that anyone could check how our contract selects the winners. This was very important for us. The alternative would have been to let a third party pick the winners, but that’s really a black box, and integrating the smart contract with Chainlink VRF really took us to the next level.»

The winner was selected on June 11 and notified of their victory, and is currently being tested to ensure they meet Blue Origin’s astronaut training requirements. Moncada-Larrotis said that once this process is complete, an official announcement will be made to the MoonDAO community.
