Russia bans payment for goods with cryptocurrencies

10:35 am, July 11, 2022

Russia has passed a law banning the use of digital currency as a means of payment — from now on, Russians will not be able to make purchases using their own savings in cryptocurrencies.

According to journalists, cryptocurrency transactions can only be carried out on platforms «registered as information system operators,» but the use of this method «is possible only in exceptional cases provided for by federal law.»

Interestingly, at the end of June, web. rf Corporation reported that in order to circumvent sanctions and help Russia get out of the financial doldrums, Russia needs to launch its own stable digital currency. However, the likelihood that Russia’s own stablecoin will help it improve its situation is negligible, as most European and American countries refuse to have any relations with the terrorist state, including trade. Thus, in early June, Europe announced that a new package of sanctions would introduce a cyber ban on cryptocurrencies, and major gaming platforms and exchanges stopped accepting Russian payment cards.
