The accused in the case of bitcoin theft from the Bitfinex crypto exchange has been reduced in sentence

Heather Morgan, who, according to the investigation, together with her husband Ilya Lichtenstein, was involved in laundering funds stolen from the Bitfinex crypto exchange, has been allowed to look for a new job, the judge in charge of the case has ruled.

Earlier, Morgan and Lichtenstein were released on bail. The court hearing will take place on August 2, until then Morgan can «engage in legitimate work and earn more than $ 10,000 a month without restrictions.»

Interestingly, the stolen cryptocurrency was worth only $ 72 million in 2016, but at the time of the arrest, its value had risen to $ 4.5 billion. Law enforcement officers managed to recover 119,754 BTC stolen by hackers, which is equivalent to $ 3.6 billion. The US Deputy Attorney General called this cryptocurrency seizure «the largest confiscation in history.»
