More than half of all bitcoins will be mined on green energy

11:41 am, July 20, 2022

The share of «green» energy in bitcoin mining has reached almost 60%, according to researchers of the Bitcoin Mining Council, an organization that unites BTC miners around the world.

According to the Bitcoin Mining Council report, in April, May, and June 2022, the share of green energy in BTC mining increased by 6% compared to the same period last year and by 2% compared to the first quarter. Currently, the total figure is 59.5%, but companies that are members of the Bitcoin Mining Council are provided with electricity from renewable sources by 66.8%.

The researchers also emphasized that bitcoin miners generate only 0.09% of total carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and consume 0.15% of global electricity generation. However, these facts do not affect cryptocurrency skeptics who are preparing for a «war «with miners and investors. Recently, it became known that crypto industry detractors are planning to meet in London to share their skepticism and communicate with lawmakers at their own anti-crypto conference. A few days ago, Sweden’s energy minister called on the government to limit cryptocurrency mining due to a lack of electricity, explaining that the country «needs energy for more useful things than bitcoin.»
