The number of hacker attacks decreased with the fall in the value of cryptocurrency

11:20 pm, July 26, 2022

SonicWall researchers have recorded a decline in the number of ransomware attacks, which they believe is due to the fall in prices on the cryptocurrency market.

According to a report by the American cybersecurity company SonicWall, more than 236 million hacker attempts were recorded in the first half of 2022, which is 23% less than last year. Ransomware allows hackers to gain access to a user’s computer network and encrypt all data to block the owner’s access to it.

According to the researchers, the fall in the value of the HTS has reduced the interest of hackers in cyberattacks — for example, between January and June 2022, the price of bitcoin dropped from $ 48,000 to $ 20,000. At the time of writing, bitcoin is trading for $ 20,945.

However, despite the decline in the number of cyberattacks, North Korean hackers are not losing ground and continue to steal investors' digital assets. Thus, North Korea became the first country with the highest number of cryptocurrency crimes. According to analysts, more than 7,000 hackers from North Korea have caused material damage to the entire crypto community. Currently, there are more than 15 open criminal proceedings against the attackers, whose damage from hacker attacks is estimated at almost $ 2 billion.
