Widow of alleged bitcoin developer denies her husband’s involvement in the creation of the first cryptocurrency
One of the main mysteries in the cryptocurrency industry is who is hiding behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. Following the release of the HBO documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery", many crypto enthusiasts believed that the American cryptographer Len Sassaman could have been behind the creation of Bitcoin (BTC).
Sassaman’s widow, Meredith Patterson, has denied rumors that her late husband could have been Satoshi Nakamoto.
In an interview with DL News, Patterson noted that she did not participate in the filming process of the HBO movie «Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery» from HBO. Moreover, she emphasized that the studio had never approached her for comment. Sassaman’s widow finds this most surprising.
Patterson also stated that Sassaman used only the Mac operating system. Bitcoin was developed on the basis of Linux.
It is known that Nakamoto asked for help from developers when creating a MacOS version of the BTC client. According to Sassaman’s widow, this casts doubt on his involvement in the project to create the world’s No. 1 cryptocurrency.
However, not all relatives reject the possibility that Len Sassaman could have been hiding under the Satoshi mask.
His longtime friend Bram Cohen, who created the BitTorrent protocol, recalled in 2021 that Sassaman often posted under a pseudonym on the Cypherpunks mailing list. Cypherpunks is the mailing list in which Nakamoto announced the launch of bitcoin.
However, Cohen admitted that he has no evidence that could in any way confirm his friend’s involvement in the creation of BTC. He refused to discuss this topic with journalists.
Prior to the official release of the new HBO documentary, crypto fans are actively betting on who the authors of the film will name Satoshi. According to the latest data, Sassaman is in the lead, with 13% of users placing bets on him. The second place is taken by Adam Beck.
