Artificial intelligence hacked a crypto trader’s cryptocurrency wallet
A crypto trader with the nickname r_ocky.eth lost $ 2500 because of a recommendation from ChatGPT. It led him to a fraudulent website while creating a bot for Pump. fun meme tokens on the Solana platform.
The researcher, named Cos, explained that while working with ChatGPT, the victim used the code offered by artificial intelligence to develop the bot. However, this code contained a backdoor that sent the wallet’s private key to a phishing site.
«After analyzing it, I realized that my wallet was actually 'hacked' by AI. I did not expect that the proposed code would contain a backdoor that would transfer my private key to fraudsters,» Cos said.
He also emphasized that the use of large language models (LLMs) carries the risk of potential attacks, as evidenced by this case.
Then, as soon as the trader used the API, the assets were immediately transferred to another wallet. Now the fraudster has 5.72 SOL and 141,950 USDC.
The victim admitted that he made a mistake by using his main Solana wallet for development.
«Of course, it was my mistake. But when you’re in a hurry to do a lot of things at once, it’s easy to make a mistake,» the victim said.
This case is reminiscent of previous hacking attacks, including the loss of 4064 BTC (over $ 238 million) due to the hacking of another crypto wallet.
Cybersecurity experts call for caution when working with artificial intelligence and integrating its solutions into critical projects. The incident demonstrates the need to thoroughly check the received code and use separate test wallets during development.
