Hackers attacked Cardano to promote malicious digital tokens
on December 8, hackers compromised the official X-account of the Cardano Foundation and used it to spread fraudulent information. They advertised a fake ADAsol token allegedly created by Cardano developers ADA $1.03 Cardano -5.79% Market capitalization $36.76 billion VOL. 24 hours $0.26 billion on the Solana blockchain SOL $215.54 Solana -2.39% Market capitalization $103.28 billion VOL. 24 hours $1.06 billion . According to analysts, this caused a trading volume of about $ 500,000.
The attackers also published a false notice of a lawsuit from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The fake statement on behalf of the Cardano Foundation stated that the support for the ADA token was being discontinued, allegedly due to regulatory requirements.
The Cardano Foundation team confirmed the attack, saying that other channels and systems of the project were not affected.
This is not the first incident of this type: on December 4, hackers attacked Solana developers by spoofing the JavaScript library. It is reported that on December 2, hackers gained access to the account that maintains the library and hacked versions 1.95.6 and 1.95.7, adding malicious code. This code stole private keys and transferred funds from the protocols. Projects that downloaded and integrated these files unknowingly became vulnerable to attacks.
