Cryptokits plan to freeze 1 million of Satoshi Nakamoto’s BTC

6:50 pm, December 10, 2024

Ava Labs founder and CEO Emin Gun Sirer proposed to freeze 1 million BTC owned by Сатоші Накамото" href="https://noworries.news/biography/satoshi-nakamoto/" data-bio-id="4232">Satoshi Nakamoto. This is due to the risks associated with the development of quantum computing. According to Sierer, wallets associated with the creator of bitcoin use the early P2PK format. However, it reveals the public key and is potentially vulnerable to brute-force attacks. Instead, modern addresses, such as P2PKH, provide a higher level of security because they only publish a hash of the key.

«As quantum computers become a threat, the bitcoin community may consider freezing Satoshi coins or setting a date for the P2PK format to be phased out altogether and freezing all assets on these addresses,» said Sirer.

The proposal has sparked debate. Some consider it controversial, emphasizing property rights, while others question the proximity of the real threat of quantum computers.

«The ability to access old-format wallets is more of a feature than a flaw. In a hundred years, it may resemble the discovery of a long-lost galleon with gold,» said the founder of the Flow AI platform.

It is worth adding that theories have recently emerged that Satoshi Nakamoto is still alive and is gradually spending his new BTC savings.
