7% of Spanish residents own cryptocurrencies

1:24 pm, August 8, 2022

The Spanish financial market regulator CNMV surveyed citizens of the country and found that almost 7% of them are engaged in cryptocurrency investments. Moreover, the share of such investors has increased significantly over the past few months despite the restrictions imposed on a number of crypto companies.

In January, the Spanish authorities banned the publication of content promoting investments in bitcoin and other virtual coins. And in April, the country’s Central Bank published a report that stated that citizens are very interested in the DeFi decentralized finance market. According to the regulator, the most popular platforms among investors are UniSwap and SushiSwap.

According to the survey, 9 out of 10 respondents said that they periodically see messages from the authorities outlining the risks associated with cryptocurrency transactions. However, the Spaniards admitted that they are still not sufficiently aware of the threats posed by the crypto sphere to market consumers.

The survey involved 1500 people representing different age and social groups. The study was conducted in May-June this year.
