Alleged bitcoin developer proposes large-scale changes in the protection of this cryptocurrency
Adam Back, founder of Blockstream, said that the safest way for bitcoin to switch to quantum-resistant cryptography is to gradually introduce optional updates.
According to him, quantum computers are still at an early stage of development, and progress in this area is gradual. However, in the long run, such technologies may pose a threat to cryptography and wallet security.
«The safest scenario is the gradual introduction of optional updates that will allow you to switch to quantum-resistant cryptography if necessary. Preparation is the key to success. Making changes in a controlled manner is much safer than acting in a crisis,» he said.
Beck noted that such changes take time and coordination within the community, as any updates to the network affect a wide range of participants, from developers to users and node operators. He added that the transition to the new cryptography is likely to be phased in and will primarily affect new addresses and storage tools, while existing solutions will be able to be used in parallel for some time. Such a scenario will avoid sudden changes in the Bitcoin network and reduce the burden on users.
