Analysts warn of increased hacker attacks sponsored by North Korea

10:23 am, August 11, 2022

A former FBI intelligence analyst has warned the cryptocurrency community about the increase in hacker attacks sponsored by the North Korean government.

According to Nick Carlsen, North Korean hackers do not plan to rest on their laurels and will continue to attack both large crypto platforms and wallets of ordinary users. North Korea was the first among the countries with the highest number of cryptocurrency crimes. At the end of June, it became known about more than 7000 North Korean hackers who caused material damage to the entire crypto community.

As a reminder, there are currently more than 15 open criminal proceedings against the attackers, and the minimum damage from hacker attacks is estimated at almost $ 2 billion. One of the most famous cryptocurrency fraudsters in North Korea is the Lazarus Group, which was involved in the attack on the Horizon Bridge of the Harmony blockchain, which resulted in the stealing of $ 100 million.

Also at the end of July, the US State Department announced a $ 10 million reward for information that will help prevent cyber espionage, theft of cryptocurrency and critical information by hackers from North Korea.
