Taiwan to launch digital ministry to protect against Chinese hackers

The agency will focus on information security and blockchain technology as key areas of protection against Chinese cyberattacks. The decision to establish the Ministry was made amid tensions between China and Taiwan. The new agency will be responsible for managing telecommunications, communications, information security, and the Internet.

To combat cyberattacks, Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) plans to introduce decentralized Interplanetary File System (IPFS) technology on its website. The government will use Web3 technology to exchange files.

The decision to create the new apparatus was made immediately after the controversial visit of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, despite warnings from mainland China. Following the visit, government websites were subjected to numerous DDoS attacks from the mainland.

Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan highlighted not only geopolitical issues in the region but also caused a storm in the cryptocurrency market. As a result, it led to a drop in the price of bitcoin to $ 22,600 within a day.
