Tomb Rider, Deus Ex, Thief, and Legacy of Kain game franchises were sold for cryptocurrencies

Japanese holding Square Enix has sold game studios Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal, Square Enix Montreal, as well as the rights to Tomb Rider, Deus Ex, Thief, and Legacy of Kain in order to get money for the development of cryptocurrency and NFT business.

The huge asset was bought by the Swedish company Embracer Group for $ 300 million. «This deal will allow us to launch new business lines, including investments in areas such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing,» Square Enix representatives emphasized.

It is interesting to note that there are currently two opposing opinions on the need to integrate cryptocurrencies on NFTs with games. While Square Enix is accumulating funds to develop as quickly as possible in this new market, the authors of Minecraft are collecting signatures to ban the use of tokens in games, as they believe it contradicts the very idea of gaming.
