A large cryptocurrency owner suddenly lost $ 230 million in bitcoins after 6 years of inactivity

According to OKLink, a blockchain explorer, the BTC ended up at three addresses on November 5, 2017. At the time of writing, the value of the transferred BTC exceeds $ 230 million.
According to the online data, the bitcoins transferred by the whale belong to the so-called «ancient stock». This is how analysts refer to coins that were purchased or mined at least 7 years ago. Some of the BTC came from an address listed on bitinfocharts as F2Pool, which may belong to early miners.
Analysts believe that the activity of bitcoin whales that have been inactive is a negative sign. This may mean that the owner will soon sell the coins they own. However, in some cases, investors simply move the BTC to other addresses and continue to follow them.
Since the beginning of 2023, more than 15,000 coins have come out of hibernation, some of them dating back to 2012−2013. Analysts at Glassnode have found that the probability of a BTC sale decreases significantly after 155 days. Moreover, a recent report from the company showed that the number of BTC held for a long time is growing by 100,000 per month.

And in early January, a bitcoin wallet that had not been active for almost four years moved about $ 250 million in cryptocurrency to another unknown BTC address. In February, the BTC wallet, which had been inactive for 11 years, withdrew 412.12 BTC, leaving only 0.11 BTC on the account. A similar situation occurred in April: a bitcoin address that had been inactive for 9 years suddenly came out of hibernation. The owner of the wallet made a number of small transactions and one large-scale transaction of 6071 BTC.
