A tech startup has developed a cryptocurrency wallet that can be implanted under the skin

Two American companies, VivoKey Technologies and Dangerous Things, have developed a cryptocurrency wallet that can be implanted under the skin. The Apex device is no larger than a pill. The device uses near field communication (NFC) and radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies. The cost of such a wallet is $ 349.

The founder and CEO of VivoKey Technologies and Dangerous Things, Amal Graafstra, noted that these wallets are designed to transfer cryptocurrencies. According to him, the application on the phone serves only as an interface, which does not contain private keys. The private key and the actual signing of transactions take place directly on the chip.

Graafstra added that the chip can be used not only for crypto asset transactions but also for opening doors or paying for coffee.

«Apex is very thin, and to implant it, you need to insert a needle into the skin and then remove it by inserting the device into the incision. The implantation process takes only a few seconds, although most of the time is spent on preparation, bandaging, and stopping bleeding,» the developers note.

As a reminder, in April, cryptocurrency hackers managed to hack El Salvador’s bitcoin wallet. The attackers leaked a database of more than 5 million users of the national digital treasury.
