Albania to extradite one of the most notorious cryptocurrency criminals

2:56 pm, November 19, 2022

Turkey has agreed to extradite the founder of the cryptocurrency exchange Thodex, Faruk Fatih Özer, who fled to Albania with clients' money in 2021.

An Albanian court ruled to extradite Fatih to Turkey. He is accused of stealing more than $ 100 million from depositors. Earlier this summer, he was arrested in Albania on charges of fraud and running a criminal organization.

Interestingly, when the investigation began, the founder of Thodex did not hide his whereabouts. Therefore, in April 2021, Turkey issued an international arrest warrant for the entrepreneur. Interpol was looking for him for red flag fraud, which involves a request to law enforcement agencies around the world to locate and pre-arrest a criminal for further extradition.

The former chairman of Thodex faces life imprisonment on all charges. As a reminder, law enforcement agencies are currently searching for Do Kwon, the founder of the cryptocurrency Luna/USDT, which collapsed in May this year, thanks to the efforts of Interpol.
