Amazon to launch its own marketplace for digital NFT tokens

2:13 pm, January 27, 2023

The largest US retailer Amazon is planning to launch an NFT trading platform. This was reported to Blockworks by four anonymous informants. The platform is expected to be launched this spring.

It is known that Amazon will focus on selling gaming NFTs and tokens of the Web3 ecosystem. Given the popularity and large customer base of the company, the tech giant can become a serious competitor for OpenSea and Rarible.

Amazon CEO Andy Jesse has previously stated that the company is open to selling digital collections, but he does not think it is time to introduce cryptocurrencies into its payment system. «At the moment, our company has no plans to add cryptocurrency as a means of payment for retail business. However, I believe that we will see more blockchain technologies on Amazon in the future,» the company’s CEO said.

As a reminder, thanks to the partnership with Amazon, the Avalanche cryptocurrency (AVAX) grew by 23% in January. Ava Labs and Amazon have started working together to accelerate the adoption of blockchain in enterprises and government agencies. Ava Labs hopes that the collaboration will make it easier for developers to launch and manage nodes on Avalanche, as Amazon Web Services will support the network infrastructure and decentralized applications.

Despite the skepticism of the global adoption of cryptocurrencies, Amazon already accepts the SHIB meme-coin as payment for goods. And last September, the company canceled the referral fee for Ukrainian entrepreneurs for 1 year. Thus, Ukrainian businessmen will be able to scale more actively into the European and global markets and find new customers there.
