American fast food company starts accepting cryptocurrencies as payment

9:57 am, June 2, 2022

The popular fast food chain Chipotle will allow customers to pay with cryptocurrency. Payments are going to be made using the Flexa gateway.

Payment via Flexa will be available in almost all 3,000 Chipotle restaurants in the United States. The digital payment platform supports about a hundred currencies, including BTC and ETH.

To pay for their meal with cryptocurrency, customers need to have a loaded Gemini or SPEDN wallet and use it at the restaurant when paying.

Chipotle is not the only restaurant that currently accepts cryptocurrencies. The long list of establishments includes Subway, which started accepting bitcoins back in 2013, Pizza Hut in Venezuela, and Starbucks. By the way, some restaurants in Singapore accept payments in cryptocurrencies despite government regulation.

Accepting cryptocurrencies is not the first digital activity of Chipotle: last year, on Halloween, the chain created a virtual restaurant in the Roblox metaverse. Players could dress their avatars in themed costumes, using, for example, a burrito mummy or a bag of chips as a ghost. In this experiment, the first 100,000 users received free virtual burritos that could be exchanged for real ones in real stores.
