Analysts highlighted the largest cyberattacks on cryptocurrency platforms in July
In July, the cryptocurrency industry was once again targeted by numerous attacks. Here are some of the most notable hacks that took place this month:
Hacking of the Poly Network platform. One of the most high-profile cases — hackers exploited a vulnerability in the platform’s smart contracts and stole assets worth more than $ 600 million. This is one of the largest hacks in the history of DeFi (decentralized finance).
Attack on the Kaseya payment system. Although it was not an attack directly on cryptocurrencies, the attack on Kaseya affected numerous cryptocurrency companies that used this platform for their operations. The hackers demanded a ransom in cryptocurrency, which again emphasizes the importance of security in the digital world.
Hacking of Binance Smart Chain. The Binance Smart Chain platform suffered several attacks in July, resulting in the loss of millions of dollars. Hackers were able to exploit vulnerabilities in various projects on the platform.
As a reminder, in early July, the Ethereum blockchain experienced a phishing email incident that affected more than 35,000 users. The hackers gained access to a mass mailing service provider and sent emails with a malicious URL leading to a website that used a crypto-miner to steal funds.
