Anonymous user sends large amounts of cryptocurrency to celebrities
An unknown user has made a series of cryptocurrency transfers from his Tornado Cash wallets to celebrity addresses, according to Joseph Delong, CTO of the Astaria credit NFT platform.
As it became known, the anonymous person made many cryptocurrency transactions worth 0.1 ETH (about $ 170 at the time of the transfer). Among the well-known recipients are Mark Zuckerberg’s older sister Randi Zuckerberg, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, and TV host Jimmy Fallon.
Some users and crypto experts believe that such unusual transfers through Tornado Cash may be a kind of protest — all because of the US Treasury Department’s sanctions against the cryptocurrency mixer (the service was accused of laundering stolen cryptocurrencies). It has also become known that the providers of APIs and node infrastructure, which are considered the backbone of the Ethereum and Web3 ecosystems, have begun blocking remote procedure call (RPC) requests to Tornado Cash. The move to block RPC requests prevents anyone using Alchemy or Infura in the background from accessing Tornado Cash.
