Author of a book about one of the largest cryptocurrency frauds in history is threatened by anonymous attackers

Jennifer McAdam, a victim of the OneCoin crypto scam, spoke about anonymous death threats because of her book The Devil’s Coin. This is reported by The Times.

The fraudulent scheme, founded by Bulgarian citizen Ruda Ignatova together with Sebastian Greenwood, operated from 2014 to 2016. The OneCoin project was positioned as a highly profitable cryptocurrency, in which investors were supposed to profit not only from the growth of the asset, but also from attracting new participants.

The book Devil’s Coin tells how McAdam first fell into the hands of fraudsters and then began to fight them. The synopsis reads: «The amazing true story of a coal miner’s daughter who took on the creators of the world’s largest financial fraud and helped the FBI convict them.»

The author said that she personally lost about £9,000 due to the fraudulent scheme, and convinced her family to invest about £220,000 in OneCoin. McAdam was supposed to hold a book signing and presentation of her book in Ireland, but canceled the event amid threats.

As a reminder, in November 2019, the Southern District of New York court found OneCoin lawyer Mark Scott guilty of laundering almost $ 400 million. In the spring of 2020, Konstantin Ignatov, the brother of the pyramid’s founder, Ruda Ignatova, was detained at Los Angeles Airport. The man later pleaded guilty to several charges.

In February 2023, journalists reported on the murder of Ignatova, who was on the Europol and FBI’s most wanted lists. Later, the U.S. Federal Prosecutor’s Office charged OneCoin’s former head of legal and compliance Irina Dilkinskaya with fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. She faces up to 40 years in prison.
