White House holds anti-hacker conference with participation of 30 countries
Due to the growing problem of cyberattacks, the White House is holding a two-day summit, the International Counter Ransomware Summit, to combat hackers and ransomware attacks. According to local journalists, representatives of thirty countries, the European Union, and several private security companies have been invited to the conference.
This is the second international summit on hacking organized by the White House. The conference is taking place offline and will last from October 31 to November 1. Last year’s event was held online. The participants of the meeting are Ukraine, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Estonia, European Commission, France, United Arab Emirates, Germany, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Sweden, South Africa, South Korea, and the United States.
The problem of hacker attacks is currently extremely large — in just 13 days of October, attackers managed to steal more digital assets than in any other month of 2022. According to Chainalysis analysts, October’s hacker attacks have every chance of making 2022 an anti-record year. There is also a pattern: previously, most hacks took place on centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, but due to the strengthening of security measures on these platforms, 90% of attacks are now aimed at DeFi protocols. In most cases, hackers break into cross-chain bridges — attacks on them caused 82% of losses in October.
