Binance asks users to reinstall Android app due to hackers
Colin Wu, a well-known financial analyst, said that the press service of the cryptocurrency exchange Binance offered users to reinstall the mobile application.
The fact is that many customers had previously downloaded and installed phishing software, which resulted in the loss of their virtual assets. The service’s support team assured that the tracked users would receive a separate message with a proposal to re-download the application.
Unfortunately, Binance representatives did not answer whether they could do anything to help the affected customers. The company noted that it has nothing to do with the fake app with malicious code. The fact is that the trading platform software had previously appeared in the Google Play store for the Android platform, which looked one-to-one like the original and allowed logging in and trading virtual assets.
Several customers said that they tried to send digital assets in USDT from Metamask wallets or other exchanges using the Binance mobile app, but never received the deposits. The support team asked them to send a transaction hash (tx) and then informed them that the deposit address did not belong to the exchange. As of October 28, 2022, one of the fake app’s hacker wallets has received more than 500,000 USDT in the past month.
