Bitcoin owner paid $ 100,000 for just one transaction
A recent cryptocurrency transaction has attracted the attention of the community due to the size of the fee. The blockchain analytics platform Whale Alert confirmed that the investor paid 1.5 BTC for one transaction. At the time of the transfer, the fee was equivalent to $ 100,254.
This fee is significantly higher than the average cost of any transaction. The payment of such exorbitant fees usually raises suspicions, as many market observers wonder about the circumstances that could have led to this. At the time of writing, the average bitcoin transaction fee is $ 4.6.
Usually, transaction fees can fluctuate due to network congestion. During the cryptocurrency boom of 2017, it reached $ 60. A transaction fee of $ 100,254 could be the result of a bug or misconfiguration of the transfer software. It could also be due to reasons known only to the initiator of the transaction, or even a possible money laundering scheme.
Earlier in September, Paxos accidentally paid a huge fee of 20 BTC (about $ 510,000 at the time). on September 10, the company overpaid this fee for the transfer of 0.074 bitcoins, equivalent to $ 200.
