Bitcoin is named the world’s best way to fight global warming
Daniel Batten, CEO of Geneious, has published a report stating that bitcoin mining using energy derived from the combustion of associated methane can reduce CO2 emissions by 5.32%.
Batten is confident that by 2045, bitcoin mining can prevent global warming by 0.15%, and no other technology can achieve more. According to him, bitcoin mining is more effective than using carbon credits or government programs to reduce harmful effects.
«Reducing methane emissions is the fastest way to reduce the rate of global warming and is complementary to CO2 reduction strategies,» the report says.
At the end of the report, Batten points out many myths and misconceptions, such as the harm of cryptocurrency mining using the PoW algorithm, the mandatory transition of miners to renewable energy sources, and the fact that methane that is burned should be used to heat homes.
In his opinion, bitcoin mining on flared methane, due to the speed of cryptocurrency integration, can improve the environmental situation faster than the UN Environment and Carbon Reduction Programs.
