Bitcoin was used to pay for Russian sabotage against Ukraine in Poland

9:14 am, July 20, 2023

According to Gazeta Polska, the largest Russian intelligence network operating in Poland planned to blow up trains carrying weapons and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The attackers were eliminated by the National Prosecutor’s Office and the Internal Security Agency of the Republic of Poland.

«A total of 15 people were detained between March and July this year on charges of spying for the Russian military intelligence service GRU. They face up to 10 years in prison,» GP reports. According to the publication, the criminals are from Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine.

The media reports that the spies and traitors of Ukraine received tasks for remote execution directly from Moscow, and after the sabotage was carried out, they were rewarded in cryptocurrency, mainly bitcoin. The criminals later converted the digital assets into fiat.

«The members of the spy network, commissioned by the Russians, were not only supposed to collect information, photograph military and civilian objects or incite anti-Ukrainian and anti-NATO sentiment, but also to prepare acts of sabotage and sabotage,» the publication writes.

GP learned that the attackers planned to blow up trains carrying weapons and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. «That is why the first detentions took place at this time, not at any other. The risk of an assassination attempt was too high to keep the group under further surveillance,» explains an anonymous person familiar with the case file.

The findings of Gazeta Polska also indicate that the spy network was created earlier this year, after the full-scale military invasion of Ukraine by the terrorist state.
